Sauna & Steamroom Detox
Another effective way of detoxing is through encouraging sweating.
Besides doing strenuous exercise, other enjoyable ways to encourage
sweating include relaxing in a sauna or a steam room.

Sauna
To prepare for effective detox through sauna, make sure you shower
with soap and wash off any lotions, oils and dirt from the skin that
will block the pores.
Drink plenty of water before the sauna session. It is recommended to
drink three glasses of water 30, 20 and 10 minutes before stepping into
the sauna.
Avoid eating at least one hour before starting a sauna session, and only
take a light meal.
Whilst in the sauna, use hand towels to regularly wipe the sweat from
your body. The seat contains toxin and chemical residues. Many of these
substances are fat soluble and can absorb directly back into the body
through the skin. As a courtesy for other people using the sauna room,
wipe off any sweat in the sauna after you completed your session.
Within 5 minutes of exiting the sauna, to fully remove any toxic residue
on your skin, you should wash thoroughly with soap. Avoid rapid
temperature changes after the sauna session, so as not to stress the
cardiovascular system.
Rehydrate yourself with plenty of water and electrolyte drinks to
replenish lost minerals through excessive sweating.
For those of you with long hair, it is also a good idea to apply hair
conditioning treatment onto hair and tie the hair up before entering the
sauna. Your hair gets a nice treatment whilst your body detoxes!
Far Infra-Red Sauna (FIR Sauna)
FIR Sauna is a specialized type of sauna which makes use of a narrow
band of energy produced by the sun that is responsible for
photosynthesis in plants and other life promoting activities on earth.
Whilst sunlight include harmful rays such as UV, FIR sauna includes only
the beneficial rays.
FIR energy penetrates deeper into the skin, promotes an increase in
blood supply to all tissues, accelerates healing and release of toxins.
It is thought to be particularly effective in the dissolving of
cellulite.
An added advantage of FIR sauna is that increases metabolism. A 30
minute session burns an average of 600 calories (which is about equal to
jogging for 30 minutes).
Steam Room Treatment
Whilst sauna makes use of dry heat, steam room is heated with steam
and is full of moisture. A steam room filled with aromatic cleansing
herbs is particularly pleasant as it cleanses the respiratory tracts as
well.
After a steam room treatment the skin is usually well hydrated and will
feel silky and supple. The do’s and don’ts for using the steam room are
the same as for using the sauna.
Who should avoid sauna and steam rooms?
Sauna and steam rooms are not advisable during pregnancy. People with
hypertension or high blood pressure should consult a health practitioner
before using these treatments.
In addition, sauna is unsuitable for:
- Those with hemorrhagic, clotting or bleeding disorder
- Those who experienced an acute injury, as it will inhibit the
subsiding of inflammation.
- Those with metal prosthesis or any kind
