Why do Colonic Cleansing
There are broadly speaking two popular ways to cleanse the colon.
Herb Based Cleansing Kit
One method is to complete a herb-based colonic cleansing kit
complimented with a liquid diet. A blend of herbs will be used to
firstly bind onto the toxic sludge and start pulling them away from the
colonic walls. The liquid diet then help flush out the loosened toxic
sludge.
Herbs and other commonly used substances in colonic cleansing kits
include:
- Psyllium seed husks: an absorbing fiber that scrubs intestinal
walls, moves toxins and materials through the colon
- Bentonite Clay: an absorbent that draws toxins to itself and
absorbs more than 40 times its weight in toxins
- Apple pectin: binds fatty acids and triglycerides and blocks
their absorption from the gut
- Ginger root and Peppermint leaf: alleviate digestive discomfort
and bloating
- Cape Aloe leaf & Aloe Vera leaf: support normal bowel function,
are tonics for the stomach
- Chinese Rhubarb root: a stimulating tonic for liver and
gallbladder ducts and mucus membranes, promotes removal of toxins
from bowels and blood
- Barberry root: supports liver, gallbladder, spleen and bowel
- Dandelion root: supports liver function, stimulates bile flow,
helps release and absorb toxins
- Fringe Tree root bark: provides tonic action on spleen and
pancreas and stimulates liver
- Triphala fruit: supports normal bowel function, provides vitamin
C for liver detox
- English Plantain aerial parts: a soothing herb for the
intestines and breaks up mucoid plaque
- Fennel seed: alleviates occasional gas and cramping
- Fenugreek seed: a soothing herb that promotes healthy bowel
function
Colon Hydrotherapy
Another popular method of colonic cleansing is colon hydrotherapy,
which is also known as colonic irrigation.
During colon hydrotherapy, warm filtered water is gently infused by
trained nurses into the bowel to soften and break up the toxic sludge.
It should use no chemical or drugs. Abdominal massage is recommended to
be done shortly before and during the treatment to encourage the
loosening and removal of the toxic sludge.
To prepare for colon hydrotherapy, it is recommended to avoid large or
heavy meals on the day of the treatment. It is best to abstain from food
for 2 hours before the colon hydrotherapy, or the abdominal massage
preceding the therapy if having one. Liquids should be taken 1 hour
before the treatment. If you have a history of constipation, the use of
a mild laxative may be taken to enhance the cleansing process.
Colon hydrotherapy should not be painful at all, athough there may
feeling of discomfort. Usually, there is a feeling of bowel fullness and
a need to go to the toilet as the colon is filled with warm filtered
water. That feeling should pass quickly when water is reversed out of
the colon taking along loosened toxic sludge.
After care
It is important to keep well hydrated after the colonic cleansing. If
you feel nauseous or ‘unsettled’, rehydrate with herbal tea such as
chamomile, ginger or peppermint.
Avoid strenuous workouts immediately after a colonic.
Remain on light meals for a few days after. Soups and steamed vegetables
and fish (instead of read meat) are recommended. Raw food such as salads
would be avoided as they are more difficult to digest.
Form a good habit of colonic cleansing. As a general guidance, two to
three colonic cleansing per year will minimize the formation of toxic
sludge. |
